"Mud Cloth" is a handmade Malian cotton fabric traditionally dyed with fermented mud. It has an important place in traditional Malian culture and has, more recently, become a symbol of Malian cultural identity. Mud Cloth is made on narrow looms, strips of fabric about 6 inches wide are woven and stitched into cloths about 1.5 yards long and 38 inches wide. Uses include garments and home decor.
